No attachments please. 6-30-17 Gabrielle Piraino, from Defiore and Company seeks imaginative sci-fi/fantasy, horror, thrillers, and up-market chick lit for Adults and Young Adults alike. For Children’s and Middle Grade, she is looking for stories that introduce curious young readers to new concepts with compelling characters and an engaging voice (fiction and nonfiction). Connor Eck, at Lucinda Literary, seeks MG, YA, and adult fiction, as well as nonfiction. His interests are diverse, though he is particularly drawn to stories with emotional resonance and vivid characters. More than anything he is looking for authors with whom he can build lasting relationships. Amelia Appel at Mcintosh and Otis primarily seeks adult fiction and YA. For adult, she’s interested in mystery, thriller, historical fiction, science fiction/fantasy, and horror. Projects with a smart, distinct voice. For YA, she likes stories with a savvy protagonist and a slightly dark tone that deals with serious coming-of-age issues. Paste all text into one email, no attachments: For Adult fiction, send a query, synopsis, author bio, and first three consecutive chapters (max 30 pages). For YA, send query, synopsis and the first three consecutive chapters (max 25 pages).
Veronica Park, at Corvisiero Literary, loves dark, edgy YA/NA (new adult) novels that deal with real issues, romances that make you laugh out loud and deeply love (or love to hate) some of the characters. How to submit: Send query, synopsis, and 15-20 page sample pasted inside the body of the email to [email protected]. Place “Attn: Veronica Park – Query – [Your Book Title]" in the subject line. For bonus points, include links to your social media profiles in your email signature.
Deidre Knight, founder of the Knight Agency. “If you’re serious about your career, be focused and become educated. Read, read, read, and read some more in the genre you write in. Become aware of current industry industry standards for query submission. Our agency receives 300 submissions a week. In order to stand out, your query letter must be beyond reproach. When we ask for sample pages—they need to be A+ shape. If you’ve done your homework, you will be successful.”
She’s interested in romance, nonfiction, literary fiction, young adult and middle grade lists with debut or established authors. How to submit: email a one-page query that includes the first five (5) pages of your manuscript. A seasoned veteran of the literary agent biz, Deidre advises writers to always "be true to yourself. No one has your unique voice. If you try to bend and shape your point of view into something that’s on trend—the story will come across as lacking sincerity and heart. Any seasoned literary agent spot you coming a mile away. Margaret Sutherland Brown brings a strong background in editorial to the Emma Sweeney Agency as an agent. She previously worked as an Associate Editor at Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press, and as a freelance editor. She’s seeking: commercial and literary fiction, mysteries and thrillers, narrative non-fiction, lifestyle, and cookbooks. How to submit: email your query to [email protected] Begin your query with a succinct (and hopefully catchy) description of your plot. Include a brief comment (in your third paragraph) about how you heard about the agency. Paste the first ten (10) pages of your NF book proposal or novel into the query email.
5-8-16 Alexandra Weise, from the The Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency seeks adult, YA, mid-grade, and children’s fiction. 4-17-16 Elise Erickson interned at Penguin’s New American Library imprint before joining Harold Ober Associates. She’s drawn to female protagonists with unique, compelling voices, romance and all of its sub genres, women’s fiction, paranormal, mystery including clever cozy mysteries, thrillers, historical fiction, and some YA. How to submit: Email a concise query, detailed synopsis, and first 15-20 manuscript pages to [email protected].
4-10-16 Lori Galvin, at Zachary Schuster Harmsworth, knows cookbooks. She’s led a team that has produced landmark 70+ cookbooks for publisher, America’s Test Kitchen. Lori seeks cookbook authors with strong points of view, a solid grounding in their field, and a talent for motivating cooks of all stripes to get into the kitchen. She’s also on the lookout for compelling narratives about food and drink, whether memoir or cultural commentary, serious, or steeped in humor, lifestyle topics, and motivational self-help. How to submit: Cut and paste query information, as requested, inside text boxes at the AGENCY website.
3-12-16 Stephanie Fretwell-Hill began her publishing career in 2004 at Walker Books Ltd. in London, in 2011 joined Peachtree Publishers as an editor, and now is agenting at Red Fox Literary. She seeks both authors and illustrators of board books, picture books, middle grade, and young adult. Looks for strong voice, rich and multi-layered plots, and stylish, classic, or quirky illustrations. How to submit: Accepting unsolicited submissions for six months (ending mid-July 2016). 2-28-16 Daniell Barthel, at New Leaf Literary actively seeks upper MG, YA, adult, and nonfiction manuscripts, adult family dramas, and women’s fiction with a strong, romantic subplot and expertly woven tension. Also interested in non-fiction about unique lifestyles. How to submit: Send to [email protected]. The word “Query” plus agent’s name must appear in the subject line. For example: "Query for Danielle: [your title or captivating words]. Can include five, double-spaced sample pages within the body of the email.

1-31-16 Stacey Graham is an associate agent for Red Sofa Literary and seeks humorous memoir along the lines of Jenny Lawson or John Cleese, dark middle grade, New Age with a strong platform, quirky nonfiction (YA/MG and adult), history, and horror. 9-27 Penny Moore at FinePrint Literary Management is interested in books for children and young adults. In adult fiction, she leans toward sci-fi, fantasy, psychological thrillers, and humorous romance projects. Also open to non-fiction projects in pop culture, humor, travel, food, and pets.
