Manuscript Evaluation

The program:

I'll professionally critique your story, whether it's completed, in rough draft form, or only partially written. And, it won't break your piggy bank.

My unique background (studies in film and screenplays at USC & UCLA), combined with 35 years in the publishing biz, enable me to not only spot flaws in story structure and execution, but also identify a myriad of other issues that might be blocking your path to success.

Here's the deal:

You'll receive a critique of your work that includes evaluation of the following:
  • Are your characters compelling and appealing?
  • Does your plot/structure make sense?
  • Is the dialogue varied and appropriate?
  • Are your first paragraphs irresistible?
  • Is your story written so readers won't be able to put it down until they reach the last page?
  • Are there consistent writing mechanic issues that you need to address?

My comments will be written directly onto your Word document, then emailed back to you along with a detailed summary of the above evaluation points. After you've had the opportunity to review and create a list of questions/comments, we'll schedule a 30-minute phone consultation.

Evaluation Fees:
  • 40 pgs. / 10,000 words: $250.
  • 90 pgs. / 22,500 words: $425.
  • 180 pgs. / 45,000 words: $600.
  • 360 pgs. / 90,000 words: $850.

FREE QUERY "Sales Pitch" Workbook~

The information and writing exercises in this e-workbook will help you learn to write a sizzling query "Sales Pitch" first paragraph--often the only portion of a query the agent ever reads.

Another important aspect of mastering the query is that your next marketing document, the synopsis, builds on what you've written in your query letter.

Then, when you begin to craft your manuscript first page, you'll have your query letter and synopsis to use as references. This will help you introduce your story in such a way that the agent will have to turn the first page to find out "what happens next."

This e-Workbook teaches you to reveal the "guts" of your story (otherwise known as the plot) by introducing goal-obstacle-resolution in a dynamic manner.

This is what agents want to know. Who is the story about? What do they want? What stands in their way? What is the terrible "if" that occurs should  the main character not get what they want?

When an agent reads a query that clearly and quickly reveals the story plot, they'll jump up and down with excitement and order pizza. Nothing makes an agent's day more joyous than the discovery of a talented writer who has professionally presented themselves and a unique story with "best seller" written all over it!
